Where these numbers come from

These are list prices published by groomers on Pawz, resolved the same way a real quote is: the salon's size-specific price if they set one, otherwise their flat price. A salon with several services counts once, at the median of its listed prices for that size, so a cheap add-on such as a nail trim does not stand in for a groom. 'Typical' is the median and 'most pay' is the middle half, so one unusually cheap or expensive salon doesn't distort the figure. A city is only shown separately once at least five salons there publish prices — below that the number would say more about who happens to have signed up than about the local market. Coat condition, matting and behaviour can all move the final price, so treat this as a starting point rather than a quote.

Common questions

Why is my quote higher than the typical price?

Matting is the usual reason. A coat that has to be shaved rather than groomed takes far longer and is charged accordingly. Behaviour, double coats and add-ons like de-shedding also add to it.

How often does a dog need grooming?

It depends on the coat. Many long-coated breeds need a full groom every six to eight weeks; short-coated dogs may only need occasional baths and nail trims. Your groomer will tell you what your dog's coat needs.

Is the price per visit or a package?

The figures here are per visit for a full groom. Some salons sell packages or loyalty pricing that works out cheaper — their own listing will say.
